Then as soon as you get the Recycler, drop it on all of the stuff you don't use. I found it most usefull when taking the ammo out of any shotgun or gun that hybrids drop, and hoarding them (along with anything else you might find that stacks). Unless you play on Insane difficulty, then you need to actually know how to play and what to get, but still. After you have the Recycler, just pick up everything and recycle it, and you'll never be short on money. You can even revisit the earlier sections to gather all the stuff you missed and you'll be swimming in cash. Stacks (like ammo), give you 1:1 ratio of nanites (60 ammo = 60 nanites) i think, and other "useless" stuff like plants, wine bottles, cigarettes and magazines suddenly aren't so useless anymore.
Just drag and drop it on anything and it will give you nanites. Then it will give you an option to buy the recycler. You can't just find it lying around, you need to hack a replicator (hack level 5 or 6 required, not sure). Just hack any replicator on that deck and you'll find it. I won't spoil much if you didn't see the level, but you can't miss it. The one where there's a turret and a spider waiting for you. It's in the OPS level (level 4), somewhere near the end, in one of the bulkheads.
